FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the days and times of lessons?  All lessons are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and lessons take place between 4-7pm.

How long is each lesson?   Each lesson is about 45 minutes.  Our first session is 4-4:45pm, second session 5-5:45pm, and 3rd session 6-6:45pm.  Students will attend 1 session per day.  Students are also welcome to stick around when it's not their lesson time.  We often have spontaneous jam sessions and talk a lot about music!

Where are the lessons located?  We teach on the campus of Verbum Dei Jesuit High School.  Enter at the front gate (if open) or enter through the entrance driveway.  You can find it because it has the large electronic marquee next to it.

How many days can a student attend per week?  Students can attend 1, 2 or 3 days a week.  It's your choice.  The more often you come, the quicker you learn!

What if I miss a day?  That's ok!  Just come back when you can and pick up where you left off.

Do I need my own instrument?  No!  We currently offer lessons in guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard, and we provide all of those instruments for use during the lessons, but you are welcome to bring your own.  It's also good to have your own instrument to practice at home.

Is there a minimum age requirement?  We start at 5 years old.  It's hard for younger children to start due to their size.  In the future we will add classes especially for young ones.

Are lessons just for kids?  Although all of our students are currently kids, we also welcome adults.

What style of music do you teach?  We teach all styles of music, but more importantly, we teach the students how to play real instruments and to be creative.  That way, they can go on to play whatever style of music they like.

Who teaches the students?  We have a fantastic staff of highly qualified, experienced music teachers who are proficient at numerous instruments.  Most of our teachers are also full time musicians themselves.

How long does it take to learn an instrument?  There is no easy answer to this, because everyone learns differently and at a different pace.  Generally, the more work you put in to learning your instrument and practicing, the quicker you will learn.  One of the best things about music is that it involves a lifetime of learning, and there's always new things to learn and discover!

Who can take lessons at Watts Conservatory of Music?  Pretty much anybody!  (above 5 years old) We are an inclusive, welcoming school, and we accept all ethnicities, genders, and abilities.  Music is for everybody!
